“Three Parallel Rivers” refers to the unusual natural geographical scene of three rivers run together but never cross in Yunnan Province. All of the the three rivers, including Jinsha River, Lancang River and Nu River, originate from Qing-Tibetan Plateau and run in parallel from north to south for more than 170 kms in Yunnan Province, and run across Lika Mountains, Gaoligong Mountains, Nu Mountains and Yunling Mountains. This area is less than 0.4% of the total acreage of China, however, it has more than 20% of the total number of advanced flora species and 25% of th total number of fauna species. In botany, “Three Parallel Rivers” region was regarded as a “natural highland garden”. Meanwhile, it is a region that inhabits 16 nationalities, which is very unusual in the world in terms of the coexistence of multi-nationalities, multi-languages, multi-religious-believes and cultural habits.
